(a) The chan_ solution will be great for home users.

(b) But for enterprise systems, the antenna (the mobile) has to be in an 
open space (not in a telephony / server room). It cannot be very near 
Asterisk box (bluetooth), it has to be on a remote small (or old) PC.

What about:

Asterisk <-- IP --> IAX client <-- bluetooth --> mobile <--> GSM

IAX could be could used for both voice and SMS (the gateway will also 
integrate a SMS GPL server). Of course... the gateway could also support 
SIP... for SIP fans :-(, and hardware companies could build and resell 
eth-bluetouth GPL devices - for happy customers.
