Can we do more investigation into why this is apparently needed for res_snmp only (and on BSD only)?

Could you run 'make res NOISY_BUILD=1' and post the output to JIRA?  Also post your makeopts file (please rename to .txt).  I'd prefer we figure out what is different about res_snmp and just make it work with 'typeof' like everything else.
