I am not sure I understand, yet.

The actual change in behavior was done six years ago. This change here is just about the auto-complete which never worked as it displayed/offered the wrong list to choose from. Furthermore, even when such a hint – a file name which matched a module name – was taken, it did not work at all because of the wrong file extension.

Please, take over this commit and create a CHANGES entry.
