What do you mean by bad?

I'm guessing too little/much resistance  :)
Anyway you can let us know which resistor it is in case anyone else has 
the same problem?
I would have thought that a failing resistor that provide impedance 
loading would cause a card to produce echo, which could explain some 
poor soul's situations.
