I don't think that the flashphone / java / active-x / npapi will take
up a lot of resources, it won't be more than their desktop equivalents.
I mean that the web browser will sometimes hang on flash banners (my
firefox doesnt like techcrunch for example) or opening of pdfs that
download too slowly<br>
. <br>
Google chrome might be different, not sure.<br>
<br>
We have a webbased phone, (active-x and npapi is available at the
moment, flash and java will follow).<br>
<br>
I prefer a webbased phone only in these cases:<br>
- The user needs it occasionally to contact the company through the
website without having to configure a phone first.<br>
- The user is working in a webbased environment, but does not do a lot
of regular websurfing. (most callcenter users have heavy restrictions
on what they can visit), a webbased phone that can be controlled
through an api makes the integration a lot easier.<br>

I have developed the flash based web softphone which supports Audio as

I have tested the same with Mozilla Firefox 3.5.5 version browser.<br>
Guess what it never took more than 10% of CPU ( With audio and video ).<br>

Ruddy : Is that least CPU consumption ?<br>

It all depends on the situation, i work for <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://www.zoiper.com" target="_blank">www.zoiper.com</a>,
we have or are working on all 3 scenario's. <br>
In general the overal audio quality of a desktop solution will be

webbased (active-x/npapi/java) >> flash based.<br>
<br>
However, the ease of use (from an installation point of view) is the
other way
around.<br>
<br>
If the agents are using browser based software and they don't really
surf to
anything but their work, webbased will be fine.<br>
If they have acces to the complete web, including flash websites and
javascript
cpu intense websites, i would not recommend it. <br>
