I had conversation with Polycom licensing guy.<br>
They not allow to buy Polycom IP phones for softswitches who is not
certified by them.<br>
Asterisk is not certified. =(<br>
I did ask him why is that, and he answered that customers in case of
the issues with softswitch<br>
looking for Polycom logo on the phone and calls to Polycom customer
service.<br>
He told me also that they played with Asterisk, but they are not ready
to certify it.<br>
I think it can be just political issue, not the business one.<br>
I don't know if I can buy it somewhere else, but price at Ingram Micro
is very attractive. =(<br>
<br>
I don't know if I can find any good IP phones, as good as Polycom or
Cisco, but in the price range of Polycom<br>
IP 300.<br>

We've had very good results from Polycom - their IP300/IP500/IP700
product line. I've found IP300 for around $130, IP500 for around $180
and IP700 for $230 from a supplier in Chicago. Quick response and ship
times.. Very flexible. One of the nicest features is the integration
with their SoundStation line (conf room product). Can be auto programmed
from Asterisk server via a FTP setup... nice... incredible sound
quality.

Subject: Re: [Asterisk-biz] Business Phones
Kenneth,
Without a doubt, Cisco phones are the best if you're willing to pay the
money. 7960s are very powerful - up to 6 lines, XML services running
directly on the phone, and lots of call handling features. 7970s also
have a colour touch screen display, but in my opinion, don't offer
enough over 7960s to make the extra cost worthwhile. 7940s are the same
as 7960s, but with only 2 line / quick dial buttons. I've worked on
quite a few VoIP projects within IBM, and they're rolling out 7960s and
7940s to all users.
Avaya phones are not bad, though not as good as Cisco. I've only ever
seen them attached to an Avaya IP PBX, not standalone (though it may be
possible to run them standalone). Siemens VoIP phones are similar
quality. They're both on par with the better small brands, such as SNOM,
and considerably better than Grandstream.
If you'd like more details, or a formal commercial recommendation, let
me know off-list.

<pre wrap="">What are the "best" business phones for use with
Asterisk?
Something from major brand names like cisco or avaya?
or is there Anything less mainstream reasonable?
When I say business phone, I mean a phone with
business features. I have a small office with eight
phones.
thanks,
Ken
