[Asterisk-biz] G.729 license future?

There might not be many future alternatives to Asterisk if you want
G.729 along with open source. Digium has a license agreement that might
not be available to newcomers.
Look at this:

Consider the title:
"The G.729 Consortium Updates its Licensing
Policy to Exclusively License End-Products"
and specifically these words:
"Coming into effect today, these new licensing terms will not affect any
existing business or economic relationships and, therefore, are not
expected to change the current market operating environment since no
generic microprocessor chip or chipset manufacturer has sought, or been
granted, a G.729 Consortium license to date."
So Digium is grandfathered but maybe a GPL fork of asterisk is not
considered to be an end-product.
