Basically your T1 will simply have 24 voice circuits but the signalling 
for those voice circuits will be via some other path using the SS7 
protocol.  On DMS switches we configured SS7 links via V.35 ports.

I can see why providers push for SS7.  On a DMS switch, a shelf of PRI 
enabled E1 cards would cost about 2-3 times what a shelf of plain E1s 
would cost (known as IMT - Inter Machine Trunks).
