[Asterisk-biz] Need some statistics & facts

The estimations seem way off. China, home of the most people (I think), has
the fewest actual phone lines because they never ran that many in the more
rural areas. The cellular phone is allowing them to leap-frog analog phone
technology in a lot of places. And many countries are in that same
situation. I'm not trying to start an argument, like the infamous MySQL vs.
PostgreSQL thread that won't die -- I'm just providing a little food for
thought here.

Just out of curiosity, what's the "business direction" you're seeking?
Perhaps there are more specific questions -- either in locale or technology
-- you can ask that would prove more helpful in your search?

There are 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary and
those who don't.

There is nothing more than figures, right?

I asked this at the asterisk users list first, but I realize that it is
better to find an answer here, where people need such figures in order to
find the right business direction.

I am looking for:
1. How many phone lines are currently in this world (I estimate 800 billion
analog lines) 2. How many data lines are currently in this world (I estimate
1 billion) 3. what is the forcast of 1 & 2 ? When will it swap?
4. How many PBX are in use? I guess that a part will be extended with FXO to
the Interent. Some will be replaced at all, because of missing features.
5. Which countries favour VoIP? Which countries forbid VoIP?

Where are the cheapest / best ADSL lines available?
Hongkong, Korea, Japan is my guess

bye

Ronald
