posting is now the norm since people want to see quickly if the
message is worth reading.<br>
If the poster wants to intersperse comments in the following text,
they announce that at the top so readers know to look further
down.<br>
Modern e-mail programs make it easy to figure out the history if
you were not following the discussion closely.<br>

When people reply to an email, it's their responsibility,

top-post or bottom-post to remove unnecessary old message and
keep just<br>
what's necessary to understand the email.<br>

One of the problems with top-posting is that it makes it
easier to forget<br>
