when you hit # and then the number. It immediately sends the call to
the next party (returning ring to them) without you ever having spoken
to the next person who will receive the call. To the transfer
recipient, it seems as if the call is coming in from the originator, not
as a transfer from you to them.
Consultative transfer is where you press the transfer button, the caller
goes on hold (gets MOH), you dial Bob's extension and explain to Bob who
is calling. Then you press your transfer key to confirm and the call
moves over to Bob's extension.
