A port is not a door if there is nothing listening on the port.

Open ports are not a security issue.  Stuff running on open ports are.

Your trite comparison is irrelevant in this context.  You are not "protecting" your 100 ports any more or less than 1000 or 10,000.  But do as you will, I'll agree to disagree.
