The High Availability HASTerisk (HAAST) product on www.generationd.com is a software solution that does automatic failover, etc between multiple asterisk machines.  I'm guessing this could be part of an overall solution for you....

In this scenario, does Asterisk still touch every RTP packet?  Or can 'native bridge' mode be enabled?
