That's a question you need to ask of your distribution provider.  If they are
unable to provide security updates in a reasonable amount of time, perhaps you
need to consider using one that will.  Or, as you stated before, use the
source download and compile it yourself.

Also, if you're using CentOS 5, Digium creates RPMs, which you can source
here:  http://packages.digium.com/centos/5/current/
