I have already mentioned that this is a requirement.

# tr '\0' '\n' </proc/`cat /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.pid`/environ | grep ^PATH=
PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin

Init scripts tend to set the path explicitly.

So those are just poor excuses for not using that fine hangup method.
