you have to stop asterisk before restarting dahdi service

I`ve just experience a dead server, because I ran /etc/init.d/dahdi restart . I had to reboot the server.

Should I worry about something not being right in my install, or is there a known problem with doing this while Asterisk is running?

I expected DAHDI channels to die, but not the whole server!
