I'm well aware of the Linux version, but there's a big downside for
me, I can't pick one up at a local store! Why does that matter? Easier
return if need be, and if I need one for a client in a hurry.... I
agree, homework is required.

Also, to put in my 2 cents on the other suggestions:

Cisco!? The whole reason they bought Linksys is because their "quality
stuff" failed miserably in the SOHO market, even at sub $500 for their
devices targeted at it. I've never been partial to them given the
unnecessary complexity to configure some of the simplest things. While
I love a good CLI, I think IOS is outdated given the competing
products.

Monowall is very nice. I have a client with over 100 computers using a
net85xx running the latest monowall on their T1. They have a second
one setup as a separate PPTP VPN server (even though one box would
have done it all, was setup that way because they had two of them). I
actually had never messed with monowall prior to working for them, and
picked it up in about 10 minutes. It's very straightforward, feature
rich, and super easy to use. pfSense is also a bigger, more bloated
version of monowall, and prior to getting my WRTSL54GS I was very
seriously considering getting a WRAP board and building a pfSense
router. Cost was the ultimate decision maker, the WRAP router would
have cost me about 2-3 times as much as the Linksys.
