Any chance that this is just a missing depmod run?

  depmod
  modinfo zaptel

Or maybe you installed the modules to an incorrect directory:

  uname -r
  find /lib/modules -name zaptel.ko

If so, it probably means you built it with incorrect kernel source /
configuration.
