[asterisk-users] Soundcard necessary on an asterisk server to get output of playback()??

this sounds like it might be:

1)  a permissions problem...  
        did you install * as root?
        is there a .gsm, .ulaw, .alaw file?

2) sip.conf problem
       codec not allowed or not specified, did you allow the proper codec?

disallow=all
allow=ulaw
