Hi Matt,

I've consulted in this space and can answer all of your questions. You
don't specify if you are in the USA so I'll assume you are (lol all the
people overseas are laughing at this point so laugh along :-) ).

You're not going to like the answers I have for you.

SMS Common Short Codes (CSC's) are controlled by CSCA (a JV between
CTIA and Neustar).

*	They are available in either 5 or 6 digits

*	They are leased for either $500 per month if you are ok with a
random number allocation

       or

*	$1000 per month if you want to pick your own shortcode.

You can find out more information here http://www.usshortcodes.com
<http://www.usshortcodes.com/>

Asumming you haven't fallen on the floor and are ok paying my hourly fee
(www.cognation.net/rates) I'm happy tot ake your call and provide you
with a ton of other information about how you actually implement this,
work with agregators and what revenue percentages you can expect to
receive from the carriers.

Subject: [asterisk-users] Cell Phone SMS

Though this is not exactly an asterisk question, I have thoughts of
asterisk integration. Does anyone know how I might get a several digit
SMS code and allow people to SMS it? The second step is, is there a
way to charge their bill x dollars when they do that (ie for a donation
to a non-profit type thing).
