in chan_vpb.c:

static VPB_TONE Ringbacktone = {440,   0,   0, 0,  -100, -100,  100, 100};

try changing the -100 values to -5 in chan_vpb.c, then recompile asterisk
and see if it works. it did for me, but i'm using the OpenLine4 card. Hope
this helps!
