Beware of the SPA-3000, we had a nightmare trying to get rid of echo issues
with it on the PSTN connection. We still haven't got it quite right even
after trying all kinds of settings and firmwares.

Oh, you meant *FXO interfaces*. :-) The SPA is off-bus, right?
Everyone has their own opinion on this, but mine is anything that's not
on the PCI bus is one less device that can hang the processor (or
overload the interrupt controller). It's easier to warm-spare, too.
