[asterisk-users] How to add new codec support?

Hi All,
 
I have been looking at the sources in order to find out how to add
support for a new codec but haven't had much break-through. It would be
very helpful if someone can provide me a few pointers as to where to
look. I am very new to Asterisk PBX so please provide the information in
somewhat layman terms.
