Everything is done as root.
Before I did this I upgraded the system to the latest by doing:
apt-get dist-upgrade
Rebooted.
apt-get build-dep asterisk
Downloaded the latest zaptel 1.4 Beta2 tarball from Digiums ftp.
Everything is unpacked in the zaptel-1.4.0-beta2 directory in root home directory.
