[Asterisk-Users] Ok... what is 'sip show peers' really used for?

Again, astDB is *not* used for sip show peers.

The IP address is stored from the registration in memory. sip show
peers only show IP addresses for registered dynamic peers
or peers with a static address. "sip show peers" takes data from in-
memory structures, and not from *any* external source.

Those that have no address are not registered and can't be reached,
since we have no address for them.

As a response to this discussion, "sip show peers" now clearly
indicates the peers that are cached realtime
peers in svn trunk so you can see which peers are static and which
peers that are cached realtime peers.

So in response to the question on the subject line:

Sip show peers is used for
- Checking whether a SIP peer is dynamic or not (D)
- Checking whether a SIP peer has nat support or not (N)
- Checking whether a dynamic SIP peer is registred (IP address
visible and D)
- Checking if a monitored peer is reachable
- Checking if a peer has an ACL setting

And in SVN trunk
- Checking whether a peer is a cached realtime peer or static peer

Hopefully, you're less confused by now and even less again when you
upgrade to the
coming version.

/O
