[Asterisk-Users] Ok... what is 'sip show peers' really used for?

Hang on a minute.... If the astdb file is not used when realtime is in effect, how the heck can I make calls to phones that aren't in the 'sip show peers' list? (hint: I CAN make calls to phones not in the peer list, but in astdb)
