[Asterisk-Users] Distinguishing Busy from No Answer

Hello,

I am wondering if it is possible to get Asterisk to distinguish between the
situation where you place a call to a PSTN line via a SIP telephony provider
and nobody answers, and where you place the same call but the line is busy.

Watching the Asterisk console on verbosity=5 reveals that Asterisk receives
a "SIP 486 Busy Here" when the called line is busy, and says "Nobody picked
up in 45000 ms" when nobody answers (with the SIP dial timeout set to 45
sec). However, either way, it appears to go to the next incremental priority
in the dialplan. If this is the correct behavior, how am I supposed to
distinguish between busy and unanswered calls? I would like to return a busy
signal for busy calls and a 'Playback()' of a recording along the lines of
"The call was not answered..." in the case of an unanswered call.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rusty
