I highly recommend m0n0wall (http://www.m0n0.ch/wall/) which is a very
managable FreeBSD based router with traffic shaping capabilities. I run
it on a Soekris Engineering embedded PC just for convenience, though
there is a release for plain vanilla PCs with dual NICs. The PC version
can boot from CD and store its configs on floppy or USB key.
