Why?

So that you can have a phone on the console of Asterisk?

The local audio interface is mostly used for testing/intercom systems. 
I'm not sure there would be any benefit in lowering the latency on this.

What exactly did you want realtime audio for (bearing in mind that the 
sound subsystem is not normally used by Asterisk)?
