For Cisco ATA U just need to modify your dialplan on cisco box 
add to the beginning of the field 
DialPlan: *8|...
so my cisco dialplan is:
*8|*St4-|#St4-|911|1>#t8.r9t2-|0>#t811.rat4-|^1t4>#.-

and it picks up remote ext. properly with *
