I wouldn't say "excessive"  but the 841 has the same problem.
In this case it appeared NOT to be in the audio stream.
I was on the 841, and at the same time placing a test call on another 
SIp phone to the distant Asterisk box that I was communicating with ( 
841 => my asterisk -> internet -> distant asterisk -> non Sipura SIP 
phone ) and we noticed a rather loud beep at various times

Sipura has released, then withdrawn, then released yet another firmware 
revision for the 841 over  the last 24 hours.
No clue if it is for this or other problems
