[Asterisk-Users] WRT54GP2A-AT Morality

Okay, let me stir the pot with a hornet's nest,

Yes, you could use it with Asterisk.

You have to set asterisk up to look like the "Vonage" switch.

You have to "spoof" the switch.

You have to look at the traffic between the "Vonage" box and the
WAN.

But surely this is obvious to anyone who understands networking.

	Ethical? Software has no morality.

Like a great many of the messages that come through this list
for people looking to "skirt" the protection mechanisms there is the
"White Hat" and the "Black Hat" of every business decision.

Should this be done? That is the moral question.

If it is done should the code be sold or distributed for free?

What are the intentions of people, not companies, but people,
who want to modify these boxes? Did they pay for the box and now want to
use them for legitimate purposes? Can I not take an old electrical meter
and use it to measure the output from my private generator at my
mountain cabin?

This is not so easy an answer to say that they should not be
doing this because of telecommunications legal clouds forbid it.

Can the same people who use software "PBX's" and "Switches" to
route calls around the PSTN be considered okay, but moving the point of
entry into the cloud to the house be different? All the equipment is
just boxes that move bits.

Hi,

I've seen these Linksys wireless routers with an ATA already built in
(Both
for AT&T and Vonage) at staples. I was wondering if anybody has one,
and
has been able to configure one of them for asterisk? Is the ATA portion
of
the router "locked" or can you just go into the router's webadmin pages
and
configure the ATA portion similiar to the way you configure the router
portion?

 Thanks,
       - Andre
