Sorry just a quick point...

There is still quite a large C64 community and someone has managed to 
make a new one.  This uses FPGAs and allows the main chip to be set up 
from compact flash.

The project has recent work right up to a few days ago.

And yes I know what you mean about Commodore, just thought people might
