Double Warning - LINUX & ASTERISK newbie!!!!

I downloaded Red Hat 9.0 from www.linuxiso.org today and installed it
according to the pdf found at:
http://members.lycos.co.uk/wipe_out/asterisk/asterisk_rh9_install-v1.3.pdf

After doing the cvs checkout thing, I followed the instructions and changed
directories and did the make install in the following
order...zaptel...libpri...asterisk after waiting a while when compiling
asterisk this is the last thing it said:

pbx_dundi.c:54:18: zlib.h: No such file or directory
pbx_dundi.c: In function `update_key':
pbx_dundi.c:1101: warning: implicit declaration of function `crc32'
pbx_dundi.c: In function `dundi_decrypt':
pbx_dundi.c:1157: warning: implicit declaration of function `uncompress'
pbx_dundi.c:1157: `Z_OK' undeclared (first use in this function)
pbx_dundi.c:1157: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
pbx_dundi.c:1157: for each function it appears in.)
pbx_dundi.c: In function `dundi_encrypt':
pbx_dundi.c:1182: warning: implicit declaration of function `compress'
pbx_dundi.c:1183: `Z_OK' undeclared (first use in this function)
make[1]: *** [pbx_dundi.o] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/asterisk/pbx'
make: *** [subdirs] Error 1

Is it safe to continue and do the make samples or is there a BIG problem
here?
