I solved the problem thanks to everyones help.

Here is the solution for future reference: (one line was all that was 
required)

exten => 
_1NXXNXXXXXX,1,Dial(Zap/R1/switch_phone_numberwwww,20,D(acess_code${EXTEN:0}))

Please note that the "wwww" is a 2 second wait allowing the switch to 
answer and setup to receive the access code.
