The spare phones I believe are exactly that, they are SPARE phones.
You still need to buy a software license before you are allowed to run
SIP on the Cisco phones. Our Cisco supplier sells SIP and H323 licenses
at the same price as the call manager licenses.
The phone will still come with a skinny image as that is how Cisco ship
them, but you can then legally apply a SIP image to your phone.
There seems to be a perception amongst a lot of people that just because
you have a phone you are allowed to run what ever image you like on it,
this is simply not the case. Each phone must have a software license.
