The message button can be programmed to take you directly to VM, but I'm
fairly certain it was either in V5 or v6 sip code (think it was v6).

Program it in the SIP<yourMACaddresss>.cnf file with something like:
 messages_uri: "3999"
which is the extension to dial for VM. Works fine.
