[Asterisk-Users] Are messages censored on this board?

John, I believe there is an option to recieve a copy of your post to the 
list which is set to off by default.
I had the same problem. If you go to 
http://asterisk.org/index.php?menu=support and click on 
asterisk-users at lists.digium.com 
<http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users> at the bottom 
of the page you can log in and set your options ("**Receive posts you 
send to the list?" and "Receive acknowledgement mail when you send mail 
to the list?")**

If you are referring to your message "This newbie gives up for now - 
sadly" it did go through.
