So you point out very effectively that you are not on a mission critical
or 24x7 operation of a size that makes you very relevant. Those specs
leave little for real performance and running on windows means you are
pretty sure to require once a month or more downtime and a lot of
vetting time to verify your patches don't break the DB.

Wasn't MS SQL server one of the apps broken by xp sp2?

Anyone who needs stability can't trust something that runs on windows.
It doesn't matter if it is bug free, it rides on bugs.
