[Asterisk-Users] Has anyone connected to 7960 with consolecablefor setup?

When I push the settings button, nothing happens.  I never get a chance to
put in the password.

I think the previous owner may have messed up a firmware upgrade.

Why can't you use the settings button?  If
you know the password (or using the default
password) you should be able to unlock the
phone and do a hard reset...
