[Asterisk-Users] UK ISDN PRI Problems

Hi Chris,

the previous comments about timing source should implemented
(span=1,1,5,ccs,hdb3,crc4). CRC4 should be enabled by default on EuroISDN
but it isn't always in the UK.

Are you sure that NTL have provided you with a true Q.931 EuroISDN PRI
circuit? If the circuit was supplied some time ago for use with existing
equipment it may not be fully EuroISDN compliant. When connecting to Telcos
that use Marconi (GPT) System X switches you must make sure that the circuit
is using ISDN 110 and not ISDN 85. ISDN 85 is an older implementation of
Q.931 in the UK and it does not work with Asterisk E100P or TE410P in my
experience. When checking with NTL ask if your circuit is ISDN 110 or Q.931e
or ETSI; these are the three names that are commonly used by UK carriers for
full spec. EuroISDN PRI.

If you are connected to an ISDN 85 circuit you will experience the symptoms
that you described and may see messages like:

When the switch engineer enters the RS command (Return to Service) the
messages above will start on your local Asterisk. From the Carrier's switch
console the D channel to the remote Asterisk system appears to come in
briefly and then "drops out" again complaining about I.420 parameters. Some
Telcos have been slow to upgrade their concentrators to support ISDN 110
(full EuroISDN) due to additional memory and CPU requirements but most have
now completed the work and you should be able to request a rebuild by NTL's
datafill team.

It would be useful if you could report back to the list on how you manage to
resolve this issue.

I dont know if it makes a differnce when you only have 1 PRI span, but
you should make the span connected to the telco your primary sync
source, with:

span=1,1,5,ccs,hdb3,crc4
