GSM is being removed in favour of another Low Bit Rate CODEC that will
improve QOS greatly between 'X' Softphones. G711u and G711a can be used
for higher QOS but requires at least 70Kbps in bandwidth. 

The release date for these new CODECs have not been determined but it

G729 is not due for some time.

so it looks like the x-lite sip client will not be a long term solution
unless this "NEW" codec gets added  to asterisk.
Now I wonder which codec they are talking about..
