Hello group,

Just got this reply from Sasha @ Smart Link, a soft modem chipset
company with a very nice attitude towards Linux. BTW, You can check the
status of most modem chipsets and Linux support here:
http://www.idir.net/~gromitkc/dips/roster.html

The good news is that the current 2.7.x series supports voice commands
and is full duplex, but can only work with one modem. This issue will be
solved with the introduction of the 2.8.x series, which will reimplement
the voice drivers and allow multiple modems to be used in one box.
Unfortunately we will have to wait till August for that.

Here is the most important letter below.

Cheers,

Hello Piotr!

 > One final question. How many modems can be supported in one PC by the
current or planned 2.8.x drivers ? As I remember from the list, most
drivers work correctly with only one modem. If you would manage to
support even 4 cards, this sure would be great news for many

Right question - 2.7 supportes only one modem (as most other).

2.8 is designed as 'multimodem' driver. At this stage 'multimodem' is
basically implemented (with few bugs) - 4 cards are already tested.
However main limitation here may be not only '#define ...' directive,
but also PC resources. This is not so critical with modern PCs and I
think it whould be possible to run 10-16 modems.
Unfortunatly 2.8.1 is very 'alpha' release and not include yet voice
modem (planned in Aug).

Best Regards. Sasha.

The companies had engaged in brief but unfruitful discussions, SCO said
last week. The call, intercepted by an unnamed source, went like this:
Operator: We get signal.
Captain: What!
Operator: Main screen turn on.
Captain: It's You!!
SCats: How are you gentlemen.
SCats: All your AIX are belong to us !!
