If you are only crosscoupling them for testing, don't worry. Just 
connect them up and let them worry each other :-) Seriously, they will 
lock to each other and settle down somewhere. The VCXO has a pretty 
narrow range, so whereever they settle it cannot be too far from 8kHz.
