Yeah, it can be a bit daunting.

The choice between libss7 or chan_ss7, is still a matter of debate. We had pretty good luck with chan_ss7. Using a custom made server with quad core Xeon processor and 4 GB of RAM, we put 8 x E1 into one machine. Best of all, chan_ss7 supported sharing of 1 signalling link over multiple boxes.

Yea, I have been reading the Asterisk-SS7 threads but everyone has their own opinion...

Main question is what to use libss7 or chan_ss7?

And what to install first?

1. dahdi kernel
2. dahdi tools
3. libss7 or chan_ss7
4. Asterisk (1.4 or 1.6)

The mailing archives have quite a few topics on this. If you're familiar
with Aterisk, you should be able to do it.

In our initial attempt, we had a large stumbling block, as the telco switch
in question was an Ericsson switch, which probably has a few SS7
differences. But did come across another user who was able to work this out
with an Ericsson switch.
Thanks yo all...
This route is for termination... Telecom is providing E1's with SS7
signaling... I have been looking around for solutions and the ready made
solution like SMG box/Quintum Unified Signaling Gw/Cisco PGW2200 are very
costly...
I have the Digium hardware in hand just need to setup Asterisk + SS7... I'm
family with Asterisk and other Digium hardware but never tried SS7. Any
howto's or procedure around?
Any info will be appreciated...
No licenses needed for the chan_ss7 or libss7 implementations.
Is this for origination or termination?
Thanks for your info... much appreciate.
Do I need to buy any licenses for SS7? Sangoma SMG requires some sort of
license in order to work... Do I need licenses for Digium cards?
This is carrier grade server machine.
