There are many areas to discuss and work on, from my own list:

* Alphanumeric Extensions
  - Iax/ASTERISK dial strings - character sets?
* Adaption of prompt syntaxes (say.c, voicemail etc)
* Adaption to international telecom "standards"
  - local PRI dialects
  - caller ID signalling over FXS/FXO
