Neither do I.
I personally use Nagisk to monitor the Asterisk (channels, etc.) but not the
process itself.
If Nagisk fails to get the information (Asterisk process is down) then it is
reported.
However, this is unlikely to happen unless Asterisk cannot restart, as you
mentioned.
A sign that the Asterisk has been restarted would be a lower number of
channels, which is worth investigating.
