[asterisk-gui] Fax on Asterisk GUI

I'm not a fax expert, but I imagine if you have certain DIDs for faxing that Asterisk can route those to the fax server. I think I've heard of that before...again...I've never personally done an installation requiring this, only heard of it. You can ask in asterisk-users at lists.digium.com, or IRC, or anything for a better answer, if no one else chimes in. :-)

Ryan,

I'm not interested in Asterisk handling the faxes just having it route an incoming fax to our fax server. Will it do that without FFA?

Sounds like FFA is going to turn Asterisk into a pretty sweet product and with your GUI on top of it ... wow.

Thanks
Bob

Bob,
Digium just released Fax For Asterisk (FFA, http://www.digium.com/en/products/software/faxforasterisk.php). Rajesh was wondering when a GUI page would be committed, so that users could use the new FFA on the GUI.

Speaking of faxes. We have a fax server. Will Asterisk recognize an incoming fax and route it there or is this what you guys have been talking about?

Rajesh,
Unfortunately, its still in the discussion stage. I'll give an update when I hear anything.

Following Neil Stone's comment, if you are interested in hearing about a fax update, please start a new thread and don't reply to an unrelated thread. Its quite annoying to readers when that happens, and eventually many loose their willingness to help. So, if you were unaware, consider this a quick 101 of mailing lists. If you were aware, consider this a warning that if you want to be taken seriously, you'll have to be respectful.

George,
You are definitely right, and both are known issues.

When I first got onto the GUI dev team and looked at the queues stuff, the 'secret' sharing was one of the first red flags I saw. Its since been proposed that an 'agentsecret' variable be in users.conf for the very reason. And while I can't update on the status of that feature, I can at least report that its acknowledged.

As for the 'an indication that the left hand doesn't know about the right...', besides that that comment is a bit unnecessary; its also just not true. If you look at http://bugs.digium.com/view.php?id=14459, you'll see that we were aware of this at least in Feb (although I'd claim more like Nov of 08), and that its a blocker for the next release of the open source GUI. The reasoning for the delay in development can simply be explained by listing my schedule. Good news is that its next on the list. :-)

When I begin development on AddQueueMember (replacing AgentCallBackLogin), I'll report back to this thread on the svn branch if you're interested in helping test.

Just started to try to use the queue agent and the current
implementation of the Asterisk GUI essentially renders these features
unusable for us.

The major problem is that the agent login password, incredibly, is the
same as the SIP secret. Obviously this needs to be changed so that the
agent passwords are
separate and independent of any other authentication information (for
SIP or whatever). (I won't comment on the fact that this little gem
appears not to be documented anywhere.)

A less important issue but an indication that the left hand doesn't know
about the right is the fact that AgentCallbackLogin is deprecated in 1.4
(and is removed in 1.6) yet is still being used in AsteriskGUI 2.

I'll hand code some stuff in the extensions.conf so we can use queues
but either the queue support in Asterisk GUI needs to be fixed or
removed. To have those tabs suggesting that queues can be used through
the GUI is just cruel temptation.
