Indeed. If I recompile  --without-inotify, it works as expected. I'll file an issue as soon as I find the time. For now, it is sufficient to know that I must use a different file name.

I've noticed a curious thing about call file behavior. I create a call file with mtime in the future, say 08:00. Before it gets executed, I replace it with file that has the same name, but mtime 08:05. It still gets executed at 08:00, not 08:05 as one would expect. Is this how it's supposed to work? I'm not sure if the code currently handles this specific situation when inotify is available. Specifically, I don't think the internal state which contains mtime is updated to reflect the new value. You can file an issue[1].
