Kia ora,

In preparation for the release of Asterisk 18 this fall the "18" branch has
been created in the Asterisk Gerrit repository[1], based off the current
"master" branch. All future changes should be cherry picked to 18 as well
as 13, 16, 17, and master (assuming the change is applicable to the
specific branch). New features submitted to 18 will now require test
coverage, just as they would for 13, 16, and 17. "master" of course will be
the basis for next year's Asterisk 19 release.

Per the discussion that occurred on this list last week the "18.0" branch
has not yet been created and will instead be created 6 weeks before when
the Asterisk 18.0.0-rc1 release candidate is created. At that point in time
release candidates for the other branches will also be created. All
releases will have a 6 week testing period and will all be released at the
same time alongside Asterisk 18.0.0.

Similar branches for the Testsuite have also been created so don't forget
to cherry-pick new tests to the Testsuite 17 branch as well.

This is also a reminder that the Asterisk 13 and 17 branches will become
security fix only as of October of this year. In the case of Asterisk 13 it
has had an extended life but all good branches come to an end! I want to
extend a thanks to everyone who contributed to both Asterisk 13 and 17 over
their lifetime, they would not be what they are without you.

Cheers,
